These chunky knit fingerless mittens are a great first project for a child or adult as they use simple stitches and knit up really fast (about 1 hour to make the adults pair).

One 100gram ball of 14-ply merino yarn is also enough to knit one pair of each size so you can easily make a parent and child matching pair. It is also knit
flat and seamed at the end using the mattress stitch.

The adults size is one size fits most, measures 9cm width and 18.5cm length, but can stretch to accommodate most adult hands and the child's measures 7cm width and 14cm length and would best fit a 4-9 year old.

Skills used in this pattern: Knit stitch, Purl stitch, 2x2 ribbing, cast on, binding off, making a thumb gusset.
